About Cambridge
Cambridge
Cross the Charles River and you will find yourself in another city; locals tend to consider it a strange part of Boston. Being its own city, Cambridge is a captivating and unique multicultural environment; swimming in Ivy League institutions; making it an eclectic mix of interesting people.
The headquarters of Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the city consists of 5 different markets (Central, Harvard, Inman, Kendall and Porter) and hosts people from all walks of life. Central Plaza is home to the city government and has many dining options, while Harvard Square is located next to the oldest university in the country and is known for restaurants, shopping, bookstores, nightlife and street performances.
Inman Square is lined with interesting dining options, including Cristina’s, one of the best ice cream parlors in the state.
Kendall Square is home to MIT and the state’s thriving high-tech and biotechnology industries, but there is plenty of action in this Cambridge neighborhood for restaurants run by chefs who have made a name for themselves in Boston and jumped into Cambridge. To the north, Porter Square has the largest concentration of Japanese restaurants and shops in the area. So, if you want variety, go up the “T” and see how much this modern neighborhood has to offer in the seventeenth century.
See and do
Home to Harvard and MIT Cambridge is a great place to visit the Ivy League, even if you will never be in any class. A walk around the Harvard campus is a great way to spend the day. Tours are offered, but self-guided tours are always an option. With lush courtyards everywhere, there is always a good place to stop and enjoy a picnic, admiring the grandeur of the building as you watch the “mischievous smack” meander through the classroom.
Eat
With the liberal roots of this university town, it is not surprising that Cambridge has a lot of great restaurants. From small and cheap packaged dishes to top places, the Cambridge dining scene is always hot! New places seem to be opening up every day, so it’s hard to keep up with this place. However, given Cambridge’s deep culinary roots, it’s hard to make the wrong choice.
A personal favorite over the years has been the East Coast BBQ. This main pillar in Inman Square has been around since 1985 and has become commonplace ever since. Seafood (including an excellent raw bar), grill and other southern dishes are mixed with an emphasis on grilling and the use of bold flavors. Serving dinner, brunch (with a great Bloody Mary bar) and now Saturday lunch, there’s always a good time to grab a bite to eat at East Coast Grill.
Party
Cambridge is the place where you can find the best live music near Boston. Whether you’re looking for emerging talent, blues, jazz or hardcore, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for in Cambridge. One of the most famous locations in Cambridge is the Middle East. The Middle East is both a restaurant and a music venue, a place where you can stay overnight. There is live music every night, and as it is divided into sections, there are several entertainment options, including belly dancing at dinner.
Stay
Cambridge is a destination, which makes it a city full of hotels for travelers on any budget to stay overnight. These include hotels, well-known attractions and well-known chain stores. But one of the most charming hotels is the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square. With two great restaurants, a cool bar, a terrace with cool mini seafood, a farm-to-table spa and even an outdoor ice rink in the winter months, you don’t have to venture any further.
However, I’m sure you’ll like it, because these sites are right in front of your door and are worth exploring away from a little piece of paradise.
Shop
Cambridge’s diversity is not limited to the people who live here, but extends to all aspects of life, including the shops on the streets. From fashion to gourmet food, you can find almost everything you are looking for and what you have dreamed of in Cambridge stores. A fabulous find is a children’s book store that focuses on books and a monkey named George.
The only Curious George store in the world, located in the heart of Harvard Market, has a collection of books for children and toddlers, clothes and toys that you will not find anywhere, but most importantly, shopping here is an experience.
